Money, money, money

Posted by Tina at 13:51 0 comments
Making a Finance Filofax was a solution to my money management issues. I can survive with a set amount of money but I do tend to go a bit crazy sometimes and if I wanna travel I need to start saving money! For that to happen I need to figure out how much money I actually spend on the different aspects of my life.

So without further ado here it is! My Pocket Finsbury in Raspberry!

I had an old Toy Story 3 calendar so I cut one of the images from it to make my first divider.

Then at the back I put some London sticky notes and Lego ones.

Second divider is an image I found on 9gag.

I found this printable on Pinterest from iheartorganizing and I change it a bit so it could fit on the FF. Here I just write what I did/bought and if I just went to work and didn't do much I put a sticker on it. The cupcake marker I got at a fair but you can also get them here.

Not entirely sure where I got the image from tho, but I think it was a very suitable image for a Finance Filofax.

I did this myself on Excel and then I just printed it. The little icons I got from different websites, but if you type in 'free icons' on Google you get a lot of options like The Noun Project.

The seller send me some pages so I thought I might as well use it.

For the back of it I made a little envelope, very lightly following Ray's instructions.

And of coures, I put more stickers on the pocket that runs along the FF.

Dodopad and stickers :)

Posted by Tina at 19:13 0 comments

So I love my Dodopad I really do, or at least I love the idea of it, but my gigantic letter has a bit of trouble with the tiny squares and sometimes I just give up and don't write anything! Which is not the point since I want to / need to keep track of my to do's and plans.

This is what happens things don't fit and I end up doing bigger squares or write all over.

And then I remembered something! I have this tiny tiny little guys.

So problem solved!

I put the sticker on the day and then to the left of the planner I put the same sticker and write whatever it  means. Yes I will probably continue doing the same gigantic squares but I have to admit I like doing this, gives me a sense of order in my planner which I always appreciate :)

Ohh Lego...why??

I have loved Lego for a rather long time and it's been part of my life always. I have an auntie that up to the age of 85 she would build Lego and now has began giving me all her collection. I have bought most of the minifigure series since they first arrived in Peru (Series 3) and with the boyfriend we bought about 40+ minifigures in less than a month when Series 9 came out.

Now Series 10 has come out, can you believe it? 10 Series of amazing minifigures! And then I check the minifigures they had.

First one I saw was Medusa. Pretty cool, I thought. So obviously I went straight to the Lego website.

And then surprise, surprise! A librarian! I am one, so I got stupidly excited but then I saw the actual figure and....

She looks rather boring, I am a Librarian and i wouldn't go near this little one EVER! She looks so boring!! I mean I was pissed and even more so after reading her description:

'“Shhh!”

Books are just about the Librarian’s most favorite thing in the entire world. Reading them can take you on exciting adventures in far-off lands, introduce you to new friends and cultures, and let you discover poetry, classic literature, science fiction and much more. If only everybody loved to read as much as she does, the world would be a better place…and quieter, too!

The Librarian feels that it’s extremely important to treat a book with the proper respect. You should always use a bookmark instead of folding down the corner of the page. Take good care of the dust jacket, and don’t scribble in the margins. And above all else, never – ever – return it to the library late!'

Now I have a few things to say about this description:
1. Yes we do love books (but we also love kindles, iPads, technology!)
2. Now about the quiet world....they have certainly not gone to a children's library or a school one for that matter. A library should be inviting to students, therefore a quiet place is not always the way to go, yes you teach them how to act in a library but you don't go 'shh' when they whisper or even talk!
3. Yes you should treat a book with respect, but how do you read it is your problem. If it's not your book then yes, don't go around folding pages, but seriously we won't force you to use a bookmark!
4. Now about returning the book late...where I work you're suppose to return the book in 2 weeks, but we also want the students to read books! So if you wanna take for a month please do so and finish it!

Now the other thing on the Lego description is this:

Again Lego, what the hell? You have certainly never met a librarian, do you have any idea how much a box full of books weight?? Have you tried to lift it? Push it? Do any attempt to move it? Try to move one and then we can talk.

You get cookie point for the creativity part, yes we are rather creative and speed well, in my specific case I have had to run back and forth between libraries more than once so 2 stars does not make me happy! But that might be just me.

I realize this does not apply to all librarians, but I think we deserve an upgrade of our image, we are in a  new century (13 years in a new century!!!) and librarians have indeed changed!

Of course been a librarian anything that has library on it makes me want to have it! So byebye I shall go  get one! Damn you Lego!

Never judge a book by it's cover

Posted by Tina at 22:31 0 comments
Or in this case by it's TV show.

I saw The Carrie Diaries book cover when it first came out and I thought, this looks like fun, then the TV show came out and I was hooked. No idea if it's getting a 2nd season or not but in any case I enjoyed the first one!

The novel is about Carrie Bradshaw before moving to NYC, before the now famous Sex and The City. It talks about her life in her little town of Castlebury and all the high school drama that comes along.

The book arrived in the Library over the summer break and one of the students first got her hands in it so I had to wait and then I got it. (Spoilers to come you have been warned).

SPOILERS!!!

First of it's NOTHING like the series, which shouldn't shock me cause I've read half of Gossip Girl and have seen the whole series and yeah, we know how that ended. Anyway began reading kinda put off by this fact (why? I don't know guess the show got me exited) but was determined to finish the book, which took FOREVER! I mean three weeks to read that?? Hhhmmm I'm disappointed but now that I've finished it GODDAMMIT!! Why the cliffhanger?? Now I have to ran and get book 2, which we do not have in the library and well I cba to buy so we'll see, but still wanna know what happens!

IT'S HERE!!! I bought this lovely Pocket Finsbury in Raspberry from the Adspot page at the Philofaxy blog and, even tho it didn't take that long to arrive, it felt like forever! Specially since I had to deal with a website in Dutch! I mean I speak some German so I could understand bits of it but really it was a pain hehe but it's here!!

First of all it's tiny!!! But so cute! Love it!

Also I didn't know it had that pocket! Which looks quite useful :)

Another pocket :)

Rings look ok.

Now on Adspot it said that it came with no inserts at all but oooo nice surprise! This is what I got:

A to Z tabs

I got Bank Account inserts and Expenses.

Now, what's the difference? Someone knows?

Also Address inserts....two...I think I will modify them! :)

I reaaaaally wanna drive the bus

Posted by Tina at 19:35 0 comments
On April we celebrate 10 years since 'Don't Let The Pigeon Drive The Bus' was released.

A year ago I had no idea who the Pigeon was, much less Mo Willems. In fact I had to read his name to figure out what his name was! Yes I know, the horror!!! How can I not know who he is? Well living in Lima, Peru doesn't really make all that knowledgeable about other authors outside the classic ones, but now working at an international shook everything changes!

I've come to love the pigeon and pretty sure I have read every book we own in the library by Mo Willems! He is hilarious, not only kids love it but so do their parents.

I know a few of my friends that think they are too cool for "children books" but I believe Mo Willems' books are for all ages. My two personal favourites are this two:

I'm somewhat glad I found about this book now, when my English level is high enough to understand his cheeky jokes and world play.

Have you ever read any of the Mo Willems books? Which one is your favourite?

Once upon a time...

Posted by Tina at 01:02 0 comments
there was yet another book the kids in the library got OBSESSED with and as the curious person (and librarian) I am. I HAD to read it. Which I began on Wednesday and MY GOD! Why did I not know about the existence of this book when it FIRST came out! Granted I saw the Barnes and Noble in Las Vegas had everything related to the book and yet I pay no attention to it!

But anyway, I was warned by everyone and this book "You'll be crying like a baby" they said, well so far so good no crying. I like the main character, I think we could be friends :)

I would've never read this book if it wasn't for the students trying to read it or the recommendations, but I think so far it's been good and I don't know it is one of those books that I cannot stop reading because "OHMYGOD SOMEONE TELL ME RIGHT NOW WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN" but because it is like I am part of the story, part of the life of the characters, following their lives like the quiet friend that stands in the corner and listens. Have, obviously, not finished the book but I shall update this once I do, or once I feel like writing about it again.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!

UPDATE:
Peter Van Houten is a dick!!! I did not expect this at all!! Yes I expected him to be a bit of a loony but this is too much! And I am so excited I'm getting all the other literary references! :D

The twists in the plot in this book are killing me. Seriously?? did you have to do that to Augustus?? Also why Augustus? Makes him sound all that more grand, like he was from another time, someone that must be remembered.

And I'm crying...goddamit!

This book should come with a free box of kleenex and a bloody warning! "Prepare to cry like a baby"

So have now finished the book and I would like to say: John Green, you bastard! That was one fantastic novel that everyone should read (preferably with a box of kleenex next to them).

Fucking fantastic.

The Sisters Grimm

Posted by Tina at 20:30 0 comments
As a booklover and children's librarian in the making, I LOVE the Grimm stories, I mean they're the foundation of my childhood! So when I came across this book I knew I HAD to read it!

In a nutshell, Sabrina and Daphne are descendants of the famous Grimm brothers, who did not write stories they wrote the history of the Everafters (fairytales characters who, OH MY GOD!, are actually real), sadly they're comfinde in a little town outside New York City called Ferryport Landing, cause things got a bit nasty with them and the humans about 400 years ago. So nanny Grimm lives in Ferryport Landing and solve the mysteries that occur in the magical town. Now Sabrina and Daphne are orphans (they're parents disappeared all of a sudden, leaving behind a car with a red hand print on the windows, ooo scary!) so are set of to live with granny. Sabrina (10) of course, is having none of it, whilst Daphne (5) is beyond excited, since living with granny means solving mysteries and meeting a ton of Everafters!

The books are a pretty easy read but I have to admit there's a couple of books that are a bit of a stretch, but still it's fairytales and mystery! How can you not like it?

Anyway I just finished Book 7: The Ever After War (2 more to go!!) and OMG!! That was so AMAZING!! Spoiler alert so please do not read if you don't want to know details about the book.

I figured out who the Master and the traitor was way before the sisters did, but still! OMG! How amazing was it! And I didn't think it could get more insane, seen as there's Everafters and magic literally flying around (there's dragons!! Evil bastards but still fantastic creatures). Cannot wait what Sabrina and Daphne are gonna do now that they're after the Master and the traitor! It's gonna be so much fun! And Puck! ha! hilarious child, but he's really nice too! I'm so excited about this series.
